These witch finger pretzel rods are a quick and easy Halloween treat made with pretzel rods, white chocolate, and sliced almonds. They’re creepy, crunchy, and perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 standard-sized pretzel rods (thick and sturdy, like Snyder’s of Hanover)
  • 12 ounces (340g) white chocolate chips or melting wafers (e.g., Ghirardelli)
  • 24 sliced almonds (natural, unroasted)
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional)
  • A few drops red food coloring gel
  • Small piping bag or zip-top bag

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange pretzel rods in a single layer nearby. Have sliced almonds ready in a small bowl.
  2. Melt the white chocolate: Place white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until completely smooth (about 1.5 to 2 minutes total). If too thick, stir in 1 teaspoon coconut oil.
  3. Add the red coloring: Transfer about 2 tablespoons of melted chocolate to a small piping bag or zip-top bag. Add a drop of red food coloring gel to the remaining chocolate and stir until pale pinkish-red.
  4. Dip the pretzel rods: Hold a pretzel rod by the top end. Dip the bottom third into the melted white chocolate, twisting gently to coat evenly. Let excess drip off, then place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with all 24 pretzels.
  5. Attach the fingernails: While chocolate is still wet, press one sliced almond onto the tip of each pretzel rod, pointed end outward. Press gently to stick.
  6. Create the ‘blood’ details: Snip a tiny corner off the piping bag with red chocolate. Drizzle a thin line around the base of the almond ‘nail’ to look like a bloody cuticle. Add a few small drops on the pretzel if desired.
  7. Set the pretzels: Let sit at room temperature until chocolate is fully set, about 15-20 minutes. For faster setting, refrigerate for 10 minutes.
  8. Serve or store: Gently peel pretzels off parchment. Arrange on a platter with fingers pointing in different directions. Serve immediately or store.

Notes

Don’t overheat white chocolate; it burns easily. Use a deep bowl or coffee mug for dipping. Work in small batches if doubling. Keep almonds dry for better adhesion. Chill dipped pretzels for 5 minutes before adding almonds for a cleaner look.
