Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (300g) baby carrots
  • 2 cups (200g) broccoli florets
  • 1 cup (150g) cherry tomatoes, halved if large
  • 1 large cucumber (200g), sliced into rounds or half-moons
  • 1 large bell pepper (150g), any color, sliced into strips
  • 1 cup (150g) cauliflower florets (optional)
  • 4–5 celery stalks, cut into 3-inch pieces
  • 1 cup (240ml) sour cream
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped (or 2 teaspoons dried dill weed)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped (or 2 teaspoons dried chives)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Ranch Dip: In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, and 1/4 cup buttermilk. Whisk until smooth. Add 2 tablespoons fresh dill, 2 tablespoons fresh chives, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Whisk again. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding lemon juice if desired. Cover and refrigerate while prepping veggies.
  2. Prep the Veggies: Wash all vegetables thoroughly. Cut broccoli and cauliflower into bite-sized florets. Slice cucumber into rounds or half-moons. Cut bell pepper into thin strips. Halve cherry tomatoes if large. Cut celery into 3-inch sticks. Leave baby carrots whole. Pat all veggies dry with a clean towel.
  3. Arrange the Veggies: On a large round platter, arrange the veggies in a circular pattern, leaving a large empty circle in the center. Create a ring about 2-3 inches wide with a clear space in the middle for the dip.
  4. Add the Dip Base: Spoon the ranch dip into the center of the platter. Spread it into a smooth, even circle about 1/4 inch thick and 6-7 inches in diameter.
  5. Create the Spiderweb Pattern: Transfer about 3 tablespoons of dip into a squeeze bottle or zip-top bag. Squeeze a small dot in the center, then squeeze thin lines from the center to the edge (8-10 spokes). Then, starting from the center, squeeze curved lines connecting the spokes, moving outward about an inch each time until you reach the edge.
  6. Add the Spider (Optional): Place a small black olive or black sesame seeds in the center of the web to look like a spider.
  7. Final Touches: Adjust any veggies that have shifted. Sprinkle extra fresh dill or chives over the veggies if desired. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 2 hours.

Notes

For best results, use full-fat sour cream for a thick dip that holds the web pattern. Pat veggies dry thoroughly to prevent the dip from becoming watery. The dip can be made a day ahead for better flavor. For a dairy-free version, use vegan sour cream and mayonnaise. For a lighter dip, substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream.
