This creamy overnight peanut butter chocolate chip oats recipe is a quick, no-cook breakfast that delivers a pudding-like texture with rich peanut butter and sweet chocolate chips. Perfect for busy mornings, it requires just 5 minutes of prep and a few simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (any kind)
  • 1/2 cup (120g) plain Greek yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons (48g) peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) chia seeds (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • a pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients: In your jar or container, add 1 cup (90g) rolled oats, 1 tablespoon (12g) chia seeds (if using), and a pinch of salt. Give it a quick stir with a spoon to distribute everything evenly.
  2. Add the wet ingredients: Pour in 1 cup (240ml) milk, 1/2 cup (120g) plain Greek yogurt, 3 tablespoons (48g) peanut butter, 2 tablespoons (30ml) maple syrup, and 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract. Don’t stir yet—just layer everything on top of the oats.
  3. Mix thoroughly: Stir everything together with a spoon or small whisk until the peanut butter is fully incorporated and no dry oats remain. This takes about 30 seconds of vigorous stirring. The mixture should look uniform and slightly thick.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips: Sprinkle 2 tablespoons (30g) mini chocolate chips over the mixture and fold them in gently. Reserve a few chips to sprinkle on top before serving if you want a prettier presentation.
  5. Seal and refrigerate: Put the lid on your jar or container and place it in the refrigerator. Let it chill for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best (8-12 hours).
  6. Serve cold or at room temperature: In the morning, take the jar out of the fridge. Give it a good stir—the texture should be thick, creamy, and pudding-like. If it’s too thick for your liking, stir in a splash of milk to loosen it up. Add your reserved chocolate chips on top, grab a spoon, and enjoy.

Notes

Don’t skip the salt—it balances the sweetness and enhances the peanut butter flavor. For best texture, stir the mixture again about 30 minutes after making it, before refrigerating. Use room temperature ingredients to prevent peanut butter from seizing. If using quick oats, reduce milk by 2 tablespoons and soak for only 2-4 hours. For a vegan version, use plant-based milk, coconut yogurt, and dairy-free chocolate chips.
