This creamy, spicy, and totally addictive dip is the perfect game day appetizer. Made in the slow cooker with simple ingredients, it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser that disappears first at every gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 34 breasts)
  • 16 oz (two 8 oz blocks) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup buffalo wing sauce (preferably Frank’s RedHot Original)
  • 1 cup ranch dressing (or blue cheese dressing)
  • 1 packet (1 oz) ranch seasoning mix
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (sharp cheddar recommended)
  • Tortilla chips (for serving)
  • Celery sticks and carrot sticks (for serving)
  • Chopped green onions or fresh chives (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Place the 2 lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breasts in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Sprinkle the packet of ranch seasoning evenly over the chicken.
  2. Pour the 1 cup of buffalo wing sauce and 1 cup of ranch dressing over the chicken. Do not stir.
  3. Cut the softened 16 oz of cream cheese into chunks and place them on top of the chicken and sauces.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender enough to shred easily (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
  5. Carefully remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Alternatively, shred it directly in the pot.
  6. Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker. Add the 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese. Stir everything together until the cream cheese is completely melted and the dip is smooth and creamy.
  7. Cover and cook on LOW for another 15-30 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and the dip is hot and bubbly. Stir once more before serving.
  8. Switch the slow cooker to the ‘Warm’ setting. Serve the dip directly from the crockpot with tortilla chips, celery sticks, and carrot sticks. Garnish with chopped green onions or fresh chives if desired.

Notes

For a lighter version, use reduced-fat cream cheese and light ranch dressing. To make it gluten-free, ensure ranch seasoning mix and buffalo sauce are certified gluten-free. For a dairy-free option, try plant-based cream cheese and dairy-free ranch. If the dip seems too thick, stir in a splash of milk or chicken broth. To reduce spiciness, use mild buffalo sauce or reduce to ¾ cup. For extra heat, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce.
