  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt to taste (start with 1 tsp)
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) beef broth
  • 810 soft flour or corn tortillas

Instructions

  1. Dice the onion finely and mince the garlic cloves. Measure out your spices.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil; warm until shimmering (about 2 minutes).
  3. Add diced onions and sautรฉ for 3-4 minutes until translucent and slightly browned.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook for 6-8 minutes until fully browned and no pink remains.
  6. Sprinkle in cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, oregano, salt, and pepper; stir well to coat the meat evenly.
  7. Mix in tomato paste and cook for 1-2 minutes until incorporated and slightly caramelized.
  8. Pour in beef broth, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer gently for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Warm tortillas by wrapping in foil and heating in a 300ยฐF (150ยฐC) oven for 10 minutes or microwaving wrapped in a damp paper towel for 30-45 seconds.
  10. Set out the seasoned beef, warmed tortillas, and toppings for a taco bar and let everyone build their own tacos.

Notes

If beef looks dry, add a splash of broth or a teaspoon of olive oil. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving. For warming tortillas, wrap in damp paper towel when microwaving to keep soft.
