A quick, budget-friendly grilled steak tips recipe that delivers juicy, tender meat with a crispy sear, perfect for busy weeknights and family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds beef steak tips (sirloin or chuck, well-trimmed)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Pat 1.5 pounds of steak tips dry with paper towels and place in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, and 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper. Toss well to coat evenly and let rest for 10 minutes at room temperature.
  3. Preheat grill to 450°F to 500°F. Brush grill grates with oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Place steak tips directly over the hot grill and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium-rare, flipping once. For medium, add an additional minute per side.
  5. Use a meat thermometer to check doneness: 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium.
  6. Transfer steak tips to a plate and tent loosely with foil. Let rest for 5 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the steak tips and serve with lemon wedges if desired.

Notes

Patting the steak tips dry helps achieve a good sear. Avoid overcrowding the grill to prevent steaming. Letting the meat rest after grilling is essential for juicy steak tips. Use a meat thermometer to ensure perfect doneness. For indoor cooking, use a cast-iron skillet and sear 2-3 minutes per side.
