A simple, kid-friendly mini Caprese bento box featuring whole cherry tomatoes, mini mozzarella balls, fresh basil, and a side of balsamic glaze. Perfect for quick, healthy snacks or lunchboxes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Mini mozzarella balls (bocconcini), about 4 oz
  • Cherry or grape tomatoes, about 1 cup
  • Fresh basil leaves, a handful
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze or reduction
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: whole-grain crackers or breadsticks
  • Optional: small wedge of lemon

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves thoroughly.
  2. Drain any liquid from the mini mozzarella balls and place them in a small mixing bowl.
  3. Gently toss the mozzarella balls and whole (or halved) cherry tomatoes with 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
  4. Layer the bento box compartments: place the mozzarella and tomatoes in one section, fresh basil leaves in another, and optional crackers or breadsticks in a separate compartment.
  5. Pour 1 to 2 tablespoons of balsamic glaze into a small condiment container and keep it separate until serving.
  6. Add a wedge of lemon or extra basil on top if desired before serving.

Notes

Keep balsamic glaze separate until serving to avoid sogginess. Drain mozzarella well and dry tomatoes and basil thoroughly to maintain freshness. Optional additions include whole-grain crackers or a lemon wedge. For dairy-free, use vegan mozzarella or avocado slices. Prepare most components ahead but add glaze just before eating.
