A set-it-and-forget-it slow cooker recipe for a juicy, sweet-savory honey glazed ham with a sticky caramelized finish, perfect for busy nights or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 to 6 pounds bone-in pre-cooked spiral sliced ham
  • ½ cup honey (raw preferred)
  • ½ cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
  • ½ cup water
  • 1015 whole cloves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker with cooking spray or a little oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Score the ham by making shallow diagonal cuts about 1 inch apart over the surface. If using whole cloves, stud them into the ham at the cross points.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and water until smooth.
  4. Place the ham in the slow cooker cut side down (if spiral sliced) or flat side down if whole. Pour half of the glaze mixture evenly over the ham.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C).
  6. Every hour, baste the ham with the glaze to keep it sticky and flavorful.
  7. Once done, carefully remove the ham and tent loosely with foil. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Use a good quality pre-cooked ham for best results. Score shallowly to avoid moisture loss. Baste every hour to maintain glaze stickiness. Cook on low to prevent glaze burning. Whole cloves are optional for aroma and decoration. Variations include using maple syrup, adding cayenne for heat, or finishing under the broiler for caramelization.
