A bright, fresh, and thirst-quenching summer mocktail combining ripe strawberries, fragrant basil, sparkling water, and a hint of lemon. Perfect for hot days and easy to make in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1012 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup (or honey/agave nectar as alternative)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) chilled sparkling water
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: a few sprigs fresh mint

Instructions

  1. Rinse 1 cup of fresh strawberries and slice into halves or quarters. Gently wash about 10-12 basil leaves and pat dry.
  2. Place the sliced strawberries and basil leaves into a mixing glass or pitcher. Gently muddle about 10 times using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to release juices and aromas without pulverizing the leaves.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of simple syrup and 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Stir well to combine. Add fresh mint sprigs if desired and stir for about 30 seconds.
  4. Fill the glass or pitcher with ice cubes to chill the drink without diluting it too quickly. Pour in 1 cup (240 ml) of chilled sparkling water and stir gently to mix while preserving bubbles.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity by adding more simple syrup or lemon juice as preferred.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with a fresh basil leaf or a strawberry slice on the rim.
