These Easy Spooky Gummy Worm Dirt Cups are a quick and fun Halloween dessert made with chocolate pudding, crushed chocolate sandwich cookies, and gummy worms. Ready in under 15 minutes, they’re a crowd-pleaser that looks impressive with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3.9 oz) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 20 chocolate sandwich cookies (e.g., Oreos)
  • 1 (4.25 oz) bag gummy worms
  • Optional: Green or orange sprinkles
  • Optional: Small plastic spiders or Halloween rings

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the instant chocolate pudding mix with 2 cups of cold milk. Whisk vigorously for about 2 minutes until the mixture starts to thicken. Let it sit for a few minutes to fully set.
  2. While the pudding is setting, crush the chocolate sandwich cookies. Use a food processor (pulse 10-15 times) or place them in a zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin. Aim for a mix of fine crumbs and small chunks.
  3. Take 6 clear cups (6-8 oz each). Start with about 2 tablespoons of crushed cookies at the bottom of each cup.
  4. Add about 3 tablespoons of pudding on top of the cookie layer, spreading gently.
  5. Add another tablespoon of crushed cookies on top of the pudding for the ‘surface’ dirt.
  6. Take 2-3 gummy worms and gently push them into the pudding layer from the top, letting some stick out. Optionally curl one worm around the edge of the cup.
  7. If time allows, refrigerate the cups for about 30 minutes before serving to help the pudding set completely.
  8. Just before serving, add optional decorations like green or orange sprinkles or small plastic spiders. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use cold milk straight from the fridge for best pudding texture. Don’t skip the bottom cookie layer to prevent sogginess. For make-ahead, assemble cups without worms up to 24 hours in advance; add worms just before serving. For dairy-free, use dairy-free pudding mix and oat milk. For gluten-free, use gluten-free chocolate sandwich cookies.
